Looks like Arabic word 'Asad', which means Lion. The swordmaker's name perhaps, or some honorific (The Lion of God?)

I've had this for well over a year and it was discussed , I Think, in the old forum . The blade bears the stamp of the royal armory at Mazar I Sharif . Incidently A katar was shown here in the last month or two that was made using the tip of one of these sabres |
