Absolutely wonderful images Ron! Would there be any information you might be able to share as well on these, such as the approximate dates or period, locations or were these simply loose photos found among other items or effects?
The last photo seems be members of one of the Sikh units in British military of course. Recalls other similar images of these units Ive seen c.1890s.
Interesting horsehead tulwar in the third image.

I love old photos like these, when I go to India early next year I hope to find some similar photos and perhaps a sword or two : ) The photos were some I had came across a year ago online and saved to my computer. They did not have any info on time or place, but I agree Sometime late 1800's.

Kind regards

Ron

I believe these are all Felice Beato photographs. You can learn a lot about the weapons and clothing etc of 1800s India warriors and soldiers by examining these types of photos, they are a great resource.

The first photo is titled "A group of Sikh sappers (combat engineers) of the Indian Army, 1858."

The second photo is titled "Afghan Sikh Officers of Hodson's Horse, a cavalry regiment of the British Indian Army, during the Indian Rebellion, 1858."

The third photo is titled "The jirkuz of the Raja of Kapurthala during the Indian Mutiny, 1857." I am not sure if this is a Sikh photo as I can not find the meaning of the word "jirkuz".

The last photo is titled "Sikh officers of the British 15th Punjab Infantry regiment, shortly after the Indian Rebellion (also known as the Indian Mutiny), 1858."

Thank you so much for adding these captions, which have heightened these images from interesting to pure treasure! Im not sure how you accomplished this, but your doing so is very much appreciated.

All the very best,
Jim

Jim, I have been saving these types of Indian and Ottoman photos, prints and drawings, I just happened to have the ones posted, they are great study material.
