Naval Cutlass?
Mods: I have exhausted every avenue of western, and or European ID on this weapon. I bought it in hopes that it may be an unknown Confederate variant. The majority believe it to be Mexican, or Spanish Colonial. Maybe even Filippino. Please don't move this thread, till a little info is gathered. Thanks. Well, as stated, whatizzit? The hilt contains all the attributes of a Confederate "Dog River" cavalry sword. However, the applied thumb rest, blade shape, and all-leather scabbard are a mystery. With the "D" rings on the scabbard, I assume it was meant to be worn on the back, not belt. Blade is 27 1/2" long, 1 5/8" wide. Any ideas?

Well, while I cannot tell you where for sure this is from that scabbard screams Mexico to me. Hopefully others with more knowledge will be here soon with more information than I can offer.

I suspect it's of Spanish lineage, Central or South American. The scabbard and the thumb rest are giveaways, and the blade resembles a piece I had a while back.

Thanks for the input. Hopefully, we can get to the bottom of this. The thumb rest is not only found on Spanish swords. They are also on Italian, Portuguese, British Pattern 1908, and, the US "Patton" sword.
