Default Malaysian kris (or keris)?

I picked this up on one of my trips to Malaysia. Please help in identifying it?

Thanks,
Dave

Awsome piece. I would say keris panjang or execution keris from Sumatra. The ukiran is typical for a sumatra keris panjang. But i'm not quite sure about the keris itself. My first thought was a tombak, but could also be a keris cundrik. That's my first opinion. Lets wait what other members will say.

Agree with Henk, look like a panjang or bahari blade with missing gonjo. From which material is the handle and the cross piece of the sheath? Interesting piece.

Regards,

Detlef

I'm not sure of the handle material. How do I find out, short of sending it to an expert?

Try to post some close ups, maybe someone can see it by the pictures.

Heat up a needle and stick it somewhere in the hilt in a place where it will not show. Maybe the hole where the peksi fits.

If it is some kind of horn or stag you will get a destinct smell of burned hair.

Further I also see a blade that has been reshaped and is missing the ganja. Fitted with a new scabbard with an undefined wrangka shape.
The hilt is classic in shape but of low quality.

I think that there is not much to discuss on this piece.

Ukiran, wrangka and the tip of the scabbard are horn.

Yeah, missing ganja, too bad! The shape of the sampir looks odd, it may be a dua hari bulan style but cut longways on the top side for matching with the blade without ganja?
Regards

Nice sturdy blade. Unfortunately, the ganja is missing.
