Celebes (Bugis) or Sumatra ??
In a Dutch website; www.indoshop.nl i was reading a part about kerises.
I saw a text under a photo of a ukiran, explaining that this was from a bugis keris. I told the owner of the website that this was more likely a Sumatra ukiran. Althoug i know sometimes this kind of form of can be found on a bugis keris am i correct? |

From what I can see of the blade, which shows heavy Javanese influence, and looking at the hilt, the keris is probably South Sumatran. The motifs on the hilt and the form of the hilt suggests that it is from an area between Palembang and the Minang heartlands in the central highlands. I would consider this a 'Malay' keris rather than a Bugis keris.

Imo, nothing Bugis about the blade and the hilt. I agree with BluErf's opinion on the probable origin of the hilt. |

The carving on the arm of the pekaka (armband) looks it is not 'typical Minang'. More Palembang influence I thought, but I have to agree with BluErf also.
