A Bangkung with a Shandigan Blade
I would like to share a few photos of a Bangkung with a Shandigan blade. Judging by its size, hilt, the blade not being pattern welded.. etc., I believe it to be early 20th Century manufacture. It is not a tourist piece. How common are Bangkungs with similar blades.
It is pictured next to a large Shandigan Barung. Interestingly they both have the same traits. I wonder if they were made by the same Panday....... Comments????? (White tape around the hilt to protect the wrap while the blade was being cleaned up.) |

Awesome pieces, congratulations. No other comments to offer, as I have no real experience with bangkungs, but still beautiful looking piece.

Also panabas
I have a late 19th-early 20th C. panabas with a shandigan blade, although not as prominent a feature as on the two swords shown here. It is the only example I have seen on panabas.
Very nice pair of swords, kino, and blade styles are similar enough that it does make you think they were possibly made by the same smith. Ian. |

Shandigan panabas
Kino:
No new pictures for a few weeks -- I'm traveling in India and the Philippines until later this month. There are some older pictures that sort of show the blade profile, but I will try to get better ones when I return. |
