Online museum collections
Hi all !
Has there ever been an attempt on this forum to compile every online museum collections containing vast or important ethnographic weapon collections ? I personally use them a lot in my researches, and I think they are an extremely useful tool in our field. However, I feel like they are underexploited, and that some are downright obscure and unknown from the general collector (I personally discover new ones every weeks). A thread where we compile them to help others in their research would thus be rather helpful in my opinion. |

Hi Kubur,
Just trying to make our research endeavours easier Thanks to everyone ! I didn't expect the thread to catch on so quickly and I fear I don't have much to contribute myself after such great suggestions ! I do recommend the Quai Branly (of course), huge collection, but the photographic archives are maybe even more interesting ! The British museum one is also very good with some rare pieces, and is surprisingly not talked about a lot. The SMB database contains some rare weapons from Cameroon which might be useful to people studying the area. I will add this portal (German) : https://kulturerbe.niedersachsen.de/start/ The Peabody Museum collections : https://pmem.unix.fas.harvard.edu:8443/peabody/ The American Museum of Natural History (very clear website with a lot of interesting pieces !) : https://anthro.amnh.org/collections The Welt Museum Wien : https://www.weltmuseumwien.at/en/onlinecollection/ If I think of (or find) more I will add them ! |
