Default Festival keris di Istana Balai Besar Kota Bharu Kelantan 14-31 July 24

If any of you happens to be in Kota Baru Kelantan Malaaysia right now there is a v good Keris exhibition at the Royal Palace Hall just opposite the Masjid Muhammadi Kota Bharu.

Some of the highlights are keris of the regent of Kelantan and the late Nik Rashidin. The rest are keris belonging to some of the most important collectors in Malaysia.

All keris are the Malay/Patani types and for those that are only familiar with Javanese & Balinese forms this exhibition is an excellent way to see the main differences between the malay keris with the former.

For those that are outside Kelantan I put some of the pics on my flick site below .Enjoy!

Thanks Nik for posting these photos for those of us too far away to attend. I would have loved to see this in person.

Hi Green,

Thanks so much for posting these. There is one in particular that caught my eye. It is the bottom one in the attached picture from your site. It has a lot of characteristics in common with a Moro kris. The arrangement of the secar kacang and gandik is very similar to that seen on some Sulu and Maguindanao kris. Similarly the kakatua pommel with side panel. The blade looks fairly old, with quite a lot of wear on the greneng. Would you like to suggest an age for that blade?

Regards,

Ian
