Default A cross-cultural Borneo kris

One very nice mandau shorter I managed to trade this unique kris with a local collector.
The fittings seems to be Tausug, the blade Maranao and the motifs Dayak.

Very nice! Since the sheath is depicted in Jensen's Krisdisk, I always wondered myself how the blade looks like and expected something more "suluish". Is the fit good? The sheath is really unique.

Very nice hilt pommel also.

Hi Michael,

now after the comment from Gustav I know from where I know this sheath! Very nice kris, congratulations! Great addition to your collection. Do you plan to etch the blade?

Regards,

Detlef

Hello Gustav,

the blade is schown by Jensens kris disc as well on page 18!

Detlef

Thanks Sajen!

This shows I never opened chapter "Nias, Borneo". In "Philippines" chapter there is only the sheath (of all parts of this kris) depicted.

Thanks all,

I don't plan to etch it because I don't see any signs of anything to bring out from it.

What an interesting piece! Shows the power of trade and we find different parts from different tribes sometimes.
