Downturned pommels on British sword bayonets
Did the Downturned pommels on British sword Bayonets have their origin in the 1796 cavalry Sabre? I don’t think I’ve seen any downturned pommels on European edged weapons prior to the introduction of Eastern sabres.

More likely derived from knives such as the German messer.
