Talking I'm depressed, sooooo......

I'm so depressed because Lew won't to adopt me so I have decided to add another sudanese dagger to try to reconstruct a collection that could resemble Lew's wonderful pieces . pics from seller (strange pommel but I remember to have seen something similar before )

Hi Flavio

I was watching that one but have save my money for something different this time around. I am so glad that you are the person who won it . It is a real nice one with an interesting final.

Congrats

Lew

Thank you Lew

Do you remember a final of this kind on other daggers? Could be also a more recent replacement but I will tell you only when I will have it in my hand (hope soon!) Seller says that rings and final disk are made of bone....

Flavio

P.S. maybe I'm wrong but I remember that David (KATANA) has one with a final like this ?????????

Flavio

The dagger seems to be 1940s vintage this type of finale is probably original it looks like horn to me.

Nice example!

I got a chance to see Lew's pieces at the forum meeting in Baltimore, and he really has some superb examples of all types of Sudanese dagger forms.

Sorry my friend, I do not own a similar example. Very nice piece And as you said, the finial does seem unusual .... the question is ....what could its function be ? Perhaps it denotes rank or some other symbolism

Best of luck in your efforts to match Lew's collection, I've tried .... unsucessfully ....so far

Kind Regards David

Ok it's arrived.... The strange end pommel is a recent restoration (stopped with some kind of putty), while the original material used for the small disks is white (maybe dust of ivory and some glue???) and crystalline in structure, so I have already start a "new" project on this and here are some pics that I think will be interesting for others here. Now what I need it's a silver cup for close the whole thing, maybe Josè
