Default Persian Stirrups?

After a mail discussion with another forum member I thought let's ask this question here.

I have a pair of stirrups.

What do I know? They were acquired in Iran before 1975 (by a family friend whose estate came partially in my posession).

A collector I know attributed them indeed as Persian and 17th or 18th century.

This is not my field at all (only Indonesian weapons) so I would like to hear if anybody on the forum knows more.

Any input is welcome!

Regards, Erik

Hi Colin

only Morocco ... too much restrictive, at my point of view

in fact we found this shape in most of countries where Arab they were residing

the acute angle corners, was used as well as spurs, the Arabs wasn't bearing boots, able to be equiped with it

Hi Erik & Dom

Thought you might be interested to see these...I believe them to be from the Sahel region, so maybe Hausa or Fulani etc ?

Do you know of any reference material on stirrups/horse equipment apart from Stone's Glossary ?

Regards
Colin

I have had a quick look on the internet for arab stirrups.
The ones I have seem to be a bit more "luxury" than most.

The hanging part is a bit more decorated.
Also the corner parts do not seem to be standard.
And of course the inlay which to me seems quite simple but well done.

However this does not date them for me nor places them in a specific region yet.

1 of pic, it's not mine, because that pair is in Egypt, and I don't have a pic
but, exactly the same; cast metal, bronze (?)

- other pics are from a book (with me )
" l'Art des Chevaliers en Pays d'Islam "
collection de la Furussiyya Art Foundation
Institu du Monde Arabe - Paris - France

A very similar pair. These stirrups are somewhat generic in the ottoman influence as mentioned.
