Default Help with determining musket lockplate

Hi all,

I would like to ask your help identifying a brass lockplate, probably of around 1600. I have spent many hours looking for parallells, but I do not manage to find out.

The first picture shows my own piece; the second picture is from the Guns Wikia page, but there no additional information other than 'snapping matchlock' is indicated.

Does any of you recognize this piece, and in first instance which type of lock it is?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Happy newyear!

Welcome to the forum, Hérésie.
Let us see what the members familiar with this area this say about it.
Say, could you post further pictures, like one of the outer part ?

Hi Hérésie,

Not an expert perse, but are you sure this is indeed brass and not plated iron? Please do indeed post more pictures of this piece.

As far as i kknow there is no similar piece of European make. In the collection of our late friend Michael Trömner there are a few snapping match/tinderlocks and he provided alot of additional information as well. Still i can not find anything similar with that kind of roll up spring.

This roll up springs are normally typical for Japanese guns and pistols with matchlock or percussion lock.
