Rick Barrett Folded Steel Katana For Sale
Up for sale is a fully mounted Rick Barrett Oroshigane folded steel katana. (Oroshigane is Barrett’s own special recipe of handmade steel made in the Japanese tradition.)
The fuchi and kashira are made by Patrick Hastings (Tagane Arts). The tsuba is a modern handmade piece from Japan with white ray skin and handle wrapped in black silk ito. The habaki is copper and the saya has a black textured finish. It has a beautiful gold colored carp menuki. Barrett has carved his signature on the tang. The Hamon looks to be gunome/choji and hada is a mix of masame in the ji and mokume near the shinogi. The blade is new and polished by Chris Osborne, to the equivalent of the first Japanese polishing stone. He was not able to finish the polish, due to his studio being revamped. Osborne expects to begin polishing again at the end of August. I have already paid for Osborne to polish the katana, so the buyer can have the sword sent to Osborne first and then would get it back after he polished it, or the buyer can get the sword first and then send it to Osborne when he is ready to polish it. Pictured is a rather large window just to see the hamon and hada, which appears to be rather nice. The window was polished out before Osborne sent the sword to me, so this photo was taken in Osborne’s studio prior to shipping and removal of the window to even out the polish. http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/t...ickBarrett.jpg The blade is very sharp and I am sure that it would be great for cutting. I have not cut with it and it has not been used for cutting. A newly made, fully mounted and polished Barrett Folded Steel Oroshigane blade would probably sell for over $7000, but I am pricing it to reflect the present economic conditions. Price is only $3950.00, plus shipping cost to buyer or to Osborne. Included in the price of this fine sword is art polishing by Osborne. This price is lower than what some people are selling Barrett’s mono steel swords for, so this is a very good deal! I would accept cash, USPS money orders, or wire transfer or Paypal, if you pay the fees for this fine katana. The reason why I am selling this katana is Barrett is making me a custom Chinese jian, which I would rather have, as I collect Chinese weapons. I’m not in a rush to sell this or take a loss on what I paid for it. I’d just as soon as keep it, since I really like the type of swords Barrett makes.
