Khyber knife for komments
Hi, evryone.
I recently bought a khyber knife like this. I think the handle was replaced, but for a long time. Total length is 610 mm, blade is 450 mm. |

Rumpel9,
It is a very interesting Khyper knife. Did you buy this, or another one like it? The hilt is, as you mention, quite unusual so it is likely newer, and I dont remember to have seen a decoration like this one shown on the blade, but it looks very nice and it seems to be original. |

When seeing Rumple9's khyberknife I wonder what this decoration should illustrate. There must have been some thoughts behind it.
Have you had a look at architecture to see if you can find the same kind of decoration? Sometimes the decoration started in the architecture and developed from this. Ariel's khyber knife it a fantastic demonstration of skill when it comes to chiselling. Unfortunately, I have only seen the pictures shown here, but I feel that they does not tell the whole truth about the quility. I have found a quote from The Art and Architicture of Bikaner State written by Hermann Goetz, 1950. On page 125 he writes. Sorry Surat Singh Ji was born AD 1765 an ruled from AD 1787 to 1828. Rumple9 I should have added that studying carpets and textiles from the area might be a good idea.
