the wisdom of Solomon
found this 'Antique Battle Dagger Primitive War Club With Markings Used'
on e-pray for a buy-it-now price i could not refuse. 20 inches, looks rather solomonesque i believe similar ones were discussed as ww2 serviceman bring-backs from the pacific of indeterminate attribution, possibly solomon islands. asymmetric grip a bit different. |

A NICE PATTERN ON THE CLUB AND IT LOOKS LIKE BLACK INK WAS USED TO HIGHLIGHT THE NICELY CARVED DESIGNS RATHER THAN THE OLDER WHITE LIME INFILL. THE FLAT FORM OF HANDLE IS ALSO A BIT UNUSUAL FOR THESE SO I WOULD PLACE IT AS A WW2 G.I. BRING BACK FROM THE SOLOMON ISLANDS OR SOMEWHERE IN THAT REGION.
TIM SHOWS 3 NICE VARIATIONS OF CLUBS FROM THE SOLOMON ISLANDS REGION THE NEWEST ONE HAS A UNUSUAL DESIGN. IF ITS WHITE LIME INFILL RATHER THAN PAINT IT IS LIKELY A NATIVE MADE DESIGN. ANOTHER POSIBILITY IS PERHAPS IT WAS ADDED LATER. I HAVE SOMETHING SIMULAR IN FORM BUT WITH NO DESIGN. I HAVE A OLD CLUB WITH A PAINTED DESIGN ON IT THAT CAME FROM THE PROP DEPARTMENT USED BY RKO STUDIOS SO PERHAPS THE DESIGN WAS ADDED FOR A MOVIE. REAL WEAPONS WERE OFTEN USED AS PROPS IN OLD MOVIES AND SOMETIMES MODIFIED IN MANY WAYS. |
