Old African Style Walking Stick?
Just won this nice walking stick on ebay. I think this was made in South Africa the wood is similar to the bicolored wood seen on many knobkerries. My guess it was made for a British officer or someone of good social status.
Let me know what you think? http://cgi.ebay.com/Antique-Empire-W...em170031089071 Lew |

That is quite a stick. You need balls to walk around with that. I should think it was made for a European. Some better pictures would help to get an idea of scale. Is the elephant knob massive? is it fine and light weight? even if it is rather long it may have been a swagger stick for a military top brass.

Nice catch Lew. I saw it also and was gonna bid, but didn't get around to it. You and I have similar tastes.
Glad that you got it! Cong Would like to see some close-ups when you get it. |

I spoke with the seller and he says that the stick is quite heavy and dense. That sounds good to me. I should have it sometime late next week I hope
