Default nasty ol’ knife

A garage sale acquisition. Very heavy blade. Any ideas?

Could be a reshaping of a larger broken blade. A picture of the spine would be helpful.

A little less than a quarter of an inch thick at the spine. The tang is peened over what looks like a washer. I suspect old American too.
