Hello
Could some one tell me what North African swords of the first half of the 6th Century AD looked like? Is there known what kind of swords, that the Vandals used at this time in Norh Africa? Thanks for your help. Richard Rechsteiner |

Hi Richard,
This is a bit of a tough one to answer I think, its not my period at all but I can venture a few comments which will hopefully help you in further research. Late period spathas and Germanic migration swords would be what you are looking for I think. Patrick Barta is a smith who has done quite a few pieces from this period and is generally acknowledged as working to a very high historical standard. You may find his website interesting: http://www.templ.net/english/weapons...middle_age.php Best regards, Iain |

North African Pattern welded Blades between 3th BC to 6th C AD
Hello Iain
Thank you for your reply. The few swords on Patrick Barta's Home Page from the 5th and 6th Century are examples of pattern welded blades. Does anybody know if in North Africa any pattern welded Swords have been found dating between 3th Century BC to the 6th Century AD? Richard R. |
