Dear Sir, Are you able to help me with some information about these keris.

I would like to know something more about the 1(?) luk shape. What it's name, does it have a special meaning, and so on. Thank you very much, Sukuh |

			Hi All,

I have one of these also. This is my favorite Javanese dapor lok. I too would like to know more about this shape. The lok on my blade are less deeply curved than in sukuh's examples. It's too bad the ladrang wranka on my piece has seen better days. Sincerely, RobT |

I have seen many keris sajin with one luk so I have always thought of it as a very ancient dapor.

I believe what we are looking at are technically 3 luk keris. You count the luks alternating side to side from the front of the keris.

Perhaps, in general, your kerises are called luks 3 shape. in more specific, one is called shape of mahesa nempuh (if I am not mistaken) and one is called shape of kikik (small javanese wild dog) with luks 3 (if I am not mistaken either). Special Meaning? It can be special or it can be not. Depend on time and point of view. For instance, in Indonesia, from 2008 to mids 2009, kerises which have shape as yours will be very special. Perhaps, luks 5 will be special too. So, dont be glad nor dont be upset if in recent days you will find kerises which, generally, have shape as yours. If you inherit them from your ancestor, you take care of it as you have been doing. However, if you just got them days ago, perhaps, you may activate standard of procedure to verify your new belongings. Perhaps, if you may, you can take pictures from lots of different angles including from above when kerises sheathed for knowing whether your sheaths are "randan" (widow) or original. The sheaths are beautiful gandariras. The kerises are now popular. If they come from the same place, simply they are perfect. However, if they come from different places (the keris uses randan/widow sheath), perhaps you should know the motives. Most probaly, the motive is to boost the dowry It is still accepted as far as no blade modification If Someone has a wish he goes to Empu to commission a keris Empu will make a keris as his master ordered Usually, not always, the shape will represent the wish Luks 3 is called Jinangkung (reached/achieved) If lots of people have similiar wishes Nowadays Empus will make kerises in advance, either NEW or ObN They realize well market trend Thats all for now Sukuh. Hope what I explain answering your query. warm salam, OeS from ngAfrica |

If it is not KIKIK, it is Barong luks 3. The image is not clear enough.

I think it's a lok 3 singo barong. About the other one, how to tell the difference between jangkung and mahesa nempuh?

Perhaps, to elude any dispute, simply Luks 3. It is very hard to give opinion based on limited and small pictures. Even I still have high curiosity that the steel of gonjo, lion and main blade are different. If they are different, imho, the discussion should end for this topic and move to other topic: dhapur owah-owahan (re-engineering shape )According to luks shape, there are several names for luks 3 depended on details. So long I dont have opportunity to open keris books. Perhaps, any kerislover can help us to scan and to upload e.g. Ensiklopedi Keris especially where luks 3 discussed in. Today in Jawa Lunar Calendar is Suro (the first month). If around 10 Suro this year there is extraordinary moment in Jakarta, especially in Jakarta the capital city of Indonesia and in Solo (which some people claim as spiritual center of Nusantara), the dowry price of keris luks 3 will rise because Lots of people will try to find one or more for their lucks. What kind of extraordinary moment? Lets just watch on Indonesian TV. Rule of the game in Indonesian today keris world: if the demand increases, the dowry price increases too. if the supply can not fulfill the demand, there will be re-engineered luks 3 It is "normal" Moreover, I dont say that is fake regards, OeS ngAfrica |
