Default Least you ever payed for a keris

I just purchased a keris for 45 Euro!!!!, thats the smallest I have ever spent on a keris. Should arrive soon and I will take a few photos for your thoughts.

So whats the least you ever paid and was it worth it?

While i think i have been more fortunate than some in many of my purchases in most cases you really do get what you pay for. Your question really doesn't have much meaning because the quality of keris varies soooo greatly. Yeah, i once bought a decent Madurese "tourist" keris up in Nova Scotia for 40 bucks. I bought it mostly because it belonged to the captain of the Picton Castle and it had sailed around the world with him a few times. It therefore has added meaning to me, but the actual value of the keris is probably about what i paid for it. In general i think you might find that the price one pays for a keris is a personal matter that many people will not wish to discuss.

Well I have bought a few sleepers on ebay but the best I ever price paid was not for a keris. My current trade mark keris was bought for about 100 Euro. Here is a nice small one I picked up for about 45 Euro .

Pusaka,

I will just repeat somebody's words that I listened to long time ago.
The biggest you will ever spend on keris is when you get that keris from someone for free.

Usman

Are you referring to Lew's keris? Pusaka hasn't shown us his new one yet.

Hmmm... sounds like when one marries his girlfriend. The equity holder sticks with you until the end, but demands the highest return.

For me, my cheapest keris was my 1st keris, a Madura muda piece, tilam sari with a few layers of pamor. Cost about US$100. Ever since then, it has been going downhill... erm, going up, I mean.

But seriously, the lowest cost-to-value ratio I've paid for a keris was for a Pattani keris, because the owner wanted to get out of collecting. Paid US$490 for it, but its really worth many many thousands, at least in the keris' hometown. I just acquired another keris, a Sumbawa keris, which is on par with that keris, and that cost me much much much more than US$490.
