Hi
And the last one of the 4 arrivals of today a wedung. Molar tooth. I think the blade looks older than the rest. But I saw combinations like this before. Best Thomas |

A nice wedhung Thomas. If this is Surakarta then the pamor would mean this was only suitable for ranks of bupati and pangeran. I am not sure if the same rule would apply to Yogyakarta or earlier kingdoms.
I agree that the blade may be older than the dress. Certainly the fossilized molar tooth hilt is as i believe the use of this material in general is a relatively recent one. I still remain curious about the medallion on the sheath. I have seen this on numerous wedhung sheaths, but have yet to hear any explanation of the possible symbolism of the form. |

Hello David,
I'd be inclined to believe that this blade is the most recent of the lot acquired by Thomas, i.e. blade being contemporary with the hilt. Just a hunch though... Regards, Kai |
