KNIFE FROM IRAN?
HELLO EVERYBODY AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
I BOUGHT THIS KNIFE/SWORD 3 YEARS AGO IN ISTAMBUL, THE SELLER TOLD ME THAT THE KNIFE WAS FROM IRAN. THE TOTASIZE IS 64 CENTIMETERS INSIDE THE SCARBARD AND THE BLADE HAS 44 CM. WHAT KIND OF KNIFE IS THIS? I POSTED PHOTOS TO LEE. THANKS!! |

Ooh, and isn't this just similar to, but different from those little silver hilt Arab pieces previously thought to be Tibetan?.....

Seems to me that there is a thickening of the blade toward the point. Am I correct?
If so, the blade is that of a Zirah Bouk and is likely to be (and looks) Indo-Persian, especially the koftgari decoration. The handle on the other hand looks typical North African, reminescent of a Shula and the decor (circles) matches. Also, the garish scabbard with bright multicolored fabrics also looks broadly speaking "Arabian". Overall, I think it is a North African dagger made with a trade Indo-Persian blade. . |
