Default Mexican? South American? long knife I.D.

I've been researching this knife which I recently purchased, but other than a vague description of 'Mexican plantation knife' I haven't been able to identify it. I know I've seen this distinctive handle shape before, but years ago and I can't recall whether it was brazillian, 'colonial' spanish or Mexican. Does anyone here recognize this type of knife?

Cheers,
Bryan.

Hello,

as far as I know this kind of knife is called Sorocabana, named after the city Sorocaba in Brasil.
Here is a link that might give some information:

Best regards, Helge

Default Thanks Helge!

You're spot on!
Here's the photo you refer to..

and here's the one out of the book
'Swords and Hilt Weapons' Edited by Anne Cope, 1989
that I referred to.

Thanks again Helge! Well done!
