Very interesting discussion. I have a cutlass that may be worth adding for comparison. Mine is quite different in overall form, but it also has a substantial shell guard and knuckle bow, together with a broad curved blade with multiple narrow fullers and what appears to be a bone grip.
I’ve always considered it European and probably maritime in character, but I’ve never been completely certain of its date or more specific origin. I’d be interested to hear what you gentlemen think, particularly regarding the shell guard and blade form.
