Old barung with small silver punto
This barung likely dates from the late 19th C. The blade is laminated and retains a sharp edge. The hilt has a small silver punto, only 1.5 in. in length, usually indicating its owner came from one of the smaller and less wealthy Moro groups (perhaps Sama). Above the punto is an area of woven cord, much darkened from use. The flared banati wood pommel with a small "beak" and the merest hint of a "crest" is of a 19th C style.
Blade length = 15.75 in.
Maximum width = 2.5 in.
Hilt = 6.5 in.
Length of punto = 1.5 in.
