Sorry for jumping in, but what's the point of having books?
This is a Polish cavalry saber pattern 1917 yr.
This pattern (with stamped-out pommel cap) was manufactured by the companies belonging to Borowski, Morawski (Warsaw) and Stortz (Kracow). The other type, with solid caps and an engraving of oval with rays on the crossguard was made by "ARMA" belonging to Grendensky and Kawetsky in Lviv.
The NCO variant of the same saber had a wooden hilt that was painted black
