Yes I agree about being an archaic blade. The hilt appears later. As a whole it seems Sulu region in origin.

Some plain stock removal can be rough, but I've seen later kris and gunong have mono-steel stock...

Here is one of my kris that although being 17c, has a mono-steel blade. Hilt is made of sea cow ivory, silver, and swassa. The asana-asang is silver also.
