Malay Jambiah / Beladau

These are quite scarce, but this specimen is unique.

The handle is made of Akar Bahar, with two red coral cabochons, and ivory.

The blade has some pitting and rests of older staining.

The...

Isn't it a metal lamella rather then missing piece of wood?
Of course it's possible only if a metal ferrule is there.

Thank you, Fernando.

With some bigger certainty it is possible to say it came to Spain in (or before) 1898.

With some less certainty - the person who brought it is (or could be) Don Enrique...

Possibly it still is, but the "lamella" of Asang-Asang fits the...

Maguindanao twistcore Kris.

Dear All,

something a bit unusual.

At 59,4 cm quite huge. It has 6 bars at the base of blade, the highest number I have seen on Kris so far, and 4 bars until the tip. The welding is done...

Thank you Jean and Kai.

So it could be from everywhere in South Sulawesi.

Not enough space for piercing anymore, no idea about species. Definitely not from root.

Yes, and by the same occasion the guy who did it added also a stripe of it on spine of Gonjo. He had lots of time that day.

Sorry, but the welding flaw is in your eye, to paraphrase the saying.

Thank you, David.

The "dress Keris" theory is perhaps the most safe guess. There are many of such small Kerisses from Sulawesi around, but complex Pamor is seldom seen. I think, for a pure dress...

Thank you, Jose!

Rick, I feel the same. The blade, by all it's simplicity, is well shaped and evokes a harmonius and somehow "completed" feeling. I often regret the new makers tend to exuberant...

Hello Kai,

thank you!

Yes, indeed, no twist. The feature common to Salayer hilts is the rather pronounced neck, the "bridge" under it is missing (if it ever was there, patina is absolutely...

Small Bugis Sepokal

Dear All,

an interesting small (blade length 24,5 cm) Bugis Sepokal with unusually elaborate Pamor - two twisted bars, separated by a central Adeg line on both sides, and Batu Lapak on one side....

Thank you all again!

Perhaps CCUAL referred to the kris in the link he provided - it's indeed a 29 Luk blade, like Thilo's.

Thank you, gentlemen!

Except for some spots of more or less active rust I will leave it as it is. It will look better with the battered handle as it is. No expectations of some special welding...

Maguindanao 25 Luk Kris

Dear All,

nothing very refined, nevertheless a nice blade (55,5 cm) of its kind, particularly the subtle tapering to the tip.
About 40% of outer binding on handle is gone. The quite fine inner...

thank you for the pictures.

If I am not completely mistaken, we have seen at least two Kerisses of this maker on forum before, both Malela blades. He surely is improving.

The feature I wrote about isn't found on Javanese Keris, also not Sunda or Cirebon Keris.

I am not 100% sure (but quite sure) the Pedang has it, to be sure a pic exactly of this feature is needed.
