pity it is not musca rather than musco as this...

pity it is not musca rather than musco as this means 'fly' ( as in the insect ) in some romance languages ... and also 'sting' or 'bite' ... which would be very appropriate for a sword !

Very interesting . The hilt is not strictly straight , whilst it has a straight back , the inner face has a distinct curve , swelling towards the blade. So I feel it may be later than 1804. But yes...

Found this unusual oddly angled knife today at an arms fair , heavy bladed . 20 cm long overall with a 20 cm length blade. Any ideas on the part of the world it comes from or its use?

Yes it does have an early looking blade but it is closest to the Pattern 1814 cutlass which featured this type post 1803 ribbed iron hilt and had a short curved blade unlike its straight bladed P1804...
