I agree with Robert; it's a pre-pattern British sword dating to around the 1780s. The Crown over G could be for Thomas Gill; I believe that he used a stamp like that before 1800.

Hi, not a rapier but a mid to late 19th Century British 'cut steel' court sword. I can't see from the photos but it may be missing the knuckle guard.

My personal opinion? Based on the photos you’ve posted, I believe the blade is a more recent replacement. It looks old so it could be from the Victorian times but there’s something off about it.

Sword knots are typically fairly long; the end of the one in the photo is pretty much hanging where I’d expect if it wasn’t wrapped around the hilt....

What I mean by military use, is that we know some officers would carry swords...
