I didn't know what it was when I bought it. The knife was blanketed with lacquer. I removed most of it.
I searched Oriental Arms and saw one similar. Anyone know how old this knife is?

Hello Kino

I cannot give a name to this but I am sure it's Indian and quite old, 18th Century ?.
Here is another on which I was thinking about posting but you beat me to it.

Perhaps someone will tell us both what we have.

Regards
Royston

Yes that is a jamadar katari and a nice example :) These daggers come from the Hindu Kush region and are worn as a status symbol much like the Arab jambiya. Below is a brass hilted version of the dagger from my collection.

Congrats

Nice examples guys. Thanks for sharing.
Oriental Arms didn't have very many on their SOLD section. Are they rare?

Rare I would say yes. ;)

Only one that I have had in more than 20 years of collecting. I would say that they are rare.
