indonesian sword
 

I have this sword. The seller told me it comes from Sulawesi but i'm not shure.
From Zonneveld's book it could be comes from Jawa while the hilt seems to be from North Sumatra.
Could some forum friends help me understanding?

I think the seller is correct about (South) Sulawesi.
This kind of golok originates from West Java but is also found on South Sulawesi and sometimes in the nearby Eastern part of Sumatra.
Maybe this golok variation was brought there by Sundanese who settled outside Java?
The style of the hilt looks South Sulawesi, maybe Makassar, to me.

It is called Sudanga, origin Makassar, South Sulawesi.

Sudanga the same as Kelewang/Parang. Makassar and Bugis people called Sudanga or Alameng. Sudanga wear by Chieftain or Panglima Perang/Ade Pitue (Member of tetua adat) therefore it is also a symbol of leadership. Not many people know about the shape of Sudanga/Alameng because of its prestige (produce limited). Congrats!.

Two days ago I cleaned the blade (very dirty and full of rust) by immersion in acid citric. Then I used to polish the blade bicarbonate of soda together lime and soap.
To day i have done an experiment: I have used warangan on the blade. The exit IMO is rather good : a kind of pamor sanak has come out.
I think to maintaim the blade in this way

Very nice and contrast, original bugis blade as expected!. No need to put warangan on bugis blade, leave it as it is. After you clean the blade (mutih), dry it with soft cloth, leave it dry for few minutes, and smear it with oil.
