FS: Handmade Puukko - this is the real deal

This is something you´ll rarely find.

I assume that if you are looking at this you know what a puukko is, so I cut this (pun intended) short and go for the description of the item in question. Most puukko´s today are at least partly industrially made, even 95% of those which are allegdebly hand made. This one however, is the real deal.

The maker, a well acknowledged Finnish master puukko smith, Mr. Markku Vilppola, is a close friend of mine and he did this one for me. The man does everything by hand from the actual hand forging to sewing and decorating the sheaths. Only natural based dies and waxes are used in the process.

Ok.. about this one...

Hand forged form 1095 type on carbon tool steel with almost 1% carbon. Differentially heat treated to appr. 59-60 Rockwell on edge mouth. Handle made of traditionally wax treated Finnish curly birch with spacers of 925 sterling silver and Finnish reindeer horn. Handle has an embebbed Wolverine paw inlay made of stannum.

Traditionally died and waxed leather sheath is made after traditional Finnish design with a wooden liner fitted to the blade. The sheath mouth "snaps" hearingly around the handle when the puukko is fully inserted, securing it firmly. Hand decorated ancient Scandinavian loop design and Wolverine paw died in red for added contrast. Loop finished with a reindeer bone end piece.

This baby has taken serious time to make due to the handle profile and inlayed paw print. According to Mr. Vilppola he will never again accept any inlay jobs like so it is truly a unique, 100% hand made traditional Finnish puukko made by one of the best traditional puukko smiths in existence.

His blades are highly appreciated and valued amongst Finnish hunters. A friend of mine who is a devoted hunter has tried almost all blades in existence and commissioned Mr. Vilppola to make him a hunting knife after having field tested one of my users (not this as it is 100% unused and has only sat on a drawer). Lets go for the pics now:
