kerislike object
1 Attachment(s)
This is not about a keris but more a kerislike object. Its origin was Surabaja or around Surabaja. It came in 1946 to the Netherlands (that's something I'm certain about).
It's text is part of the twelfth sura from the Quran. It's "woodwork" is very raw but that's exacly had it came to the Netherlands. I myself thinks that's some kind of Jimat, but I'm not sure. Has anyone seen something like this before or recognizes it? Thank you, Sjors |
sorry
"It's "woodwork" is very raw but that's exacly how it came to the Netherlands" Sorry...
It's entire length is 18 cm (about 7 inches) |
This looks like a mounted tombak of 3 luk . ;)
|
I doubt that Rick, that must have been a tombak for very little people :D
The blades dimensions are 124 x 12 x 3 mm (about 5 x 0.5 x 0.12 Inch) |

That small? Sorry, I didn't know that, I thought Rick was making a joke
I only knew about "normal" sized Tombak, like the one of my one... |
Rick is sometimes joking, but that is very good recognizable. In discussing weapons he is mostly very serious.
I do own a tombak of that small size, it was said it is very old, but also in the size you just showed us. Nice tombak by the way. |
Sorry Rick, it wasn't my intention to insult you.
|
Please, no worries . :D
I looked at the base and saw a metuk-like feature there . Probably made as a talisman , no ? :) |
I think you're quite right Rick.
Sjors, I didn't wanted to correct you. I just ment that I thought Rick made the right hit. :) |

Most tombak do have a metuk, but not all things with a metuk are tombak.
The pics are of an archaic knife, possibly an early wedung. I have seen numerous examples of the type of blade under discussion. They seem to be particulary prevalent in East Jawa and the region to the west of Surabaya along the north coast. They are definitely talismans, and in most instances appear to have been produced from older pieces of wesi aji. |

A little part part was a problem because he couldn't read it but the main text is from the quoran ; Sura - 12 Joseph ( Yousuf): ..."O my father, I saw eleven planets, and the sun, and the moon; I saw them prostrating before me." Mr. Maisey: it did originate from Surabaya :) So it's a mounted tombak of 3 luk from Surabaya or the region to the west of Surabaya. Its purpose was/is a Jimat or talisman and it's highly possible that it's made from an older piece of wesi aji. Gentlemen, (again) thank you very much for your help :D |
