19th century yataghan blade and, likely, matching scabbard. But the handle...
Interesting, what Charles is thinking about it :-)

I just hope Saladin was a good boy this year and got it in his ( very long!) stocking!

In my case, the Indonesian(Javan) parang with old yat blade, I bought strictly out of my love for cross cultural pieces. No doubt this blade was part of the extensive Islamic trade routes that extended as far as from the Med. to Indonesia.

That an Ottoman yat blade found its way to a Javan parang(of excellent quality, btw) in the late 19th, or early 20th century is just fascinating to me. I have many such trade pieces in my collection.

When it has arrived, I will post it along with an Ottoman yat with nearly identical blade.

Now....I am just waiting for a datu ivory hilted Moro kriss with wootz blade!!! :p

Robert, I've never heard them called anything but a bolo. I have a couple similar to yours. I love the grip shape. Very comfortable in the hand.

Hi Steve, Thanks for the reply. Yes, I agree that the shape of these handles make for a very comfortable and secure grip. What I was hoping to find out is if they have any other designation other than just bolo, like the tabak does. I too have a couple more with grips like this and am always looking for more to add to the collection. :D
