Newbie Kampilan Question

Hello,

I'm a fan of Filipino weaponry, but my experience is limited to the ginunting, pinute, and talibon. I've searched a few threads in here (as well as google) on the kampilan, which is a weapon I've never held or seen in person.

Can someone please tell me which is the sharp edge on a kampilan? I thought I could guess based on the orientation of the crocodile-jaw handle, but they seem to be face both the "hook" side of the blade as well as the straight side of the blade, depending on the kampilan.

Also, is it true that the brass discs in a blade are representative of how many enemies have been slain by that particular weapon?

Thanks
