Just ended.
It looks like an Adya Katti to me...
Bill, enlighten us!

David 18th December 2006 04:44 PM

Well it ain't no barong, but it is nice. :)
I highly doubt it is Moro as well.

Will let you know when I get it! Sure is not Moro. Looks South Indian. Have seen something similar from Malabar. :D :D :D

Jens, were you bidding?

My first experience with eBay's new "making it private" bidding.

Wouldn't you know it, Artzi's just put one up for sale:

Also, compare it with this example:

I think that the offset handle and the wider blade at the distal end would make the balance 'top heavy' like an axe..so I think this unlikely to be used as a 'sword'.....definately a 'chopper'.....with the angle of the hilt set in such a way that a downward strike being the most favourable technique.

A very nice object....and ..I feel....bought at a bargain price ;)

Valjhun 19th December 2006 06:09 PM

More Malabar, than an Adya Katti, but you know, the line between the two types is thin...

I've bid on that as well (in fact I've thought thatone to be a sleeper), but got slightly overbid...

Congratulations to the buyer, You've got a very nice piece!

Very unusual for a weapon to have this many variants........

There's ones with forward curves, with backward swept blades, ones with sickle-like ricassos, and some with plain handles that look suspiciously Moro....

The floor is open.

Battara 20th December 2006 08:50 PM

Well, Joe, there really is nothing Moro about this, though you have a good point about so many variants.

Arrived today. An absolute POS! (Piece Of S***)

Asking for a refund. Totally tourist junk!

Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you.

Sorry to hear that :(
It looked very nice on pics...
What makes you believe it is touristy?

Dajak 28th December 2006 06:07 AM

Hi Bill this happends to us all it is sometimes difficult buy from the picture
even if you get no respond to see more pics that should be a reason not buying it. ( for me a reason for don t buy it)

Better buy from someone you can return it if you don t like it .
(pay a little more and no headache)

Maybe I am just feeling a bit moody today. Had some business problems. One of my rental houses burned. No injuries. Don't mean to take it out on this seller if the piece is worth having.

And Dajak, you are absolutely right. Dealers like yourself have excellent quality and good return policies.

ariel 28th December 2006 12:40 PM

Well, Mistuh Marsh.
Havin' looked at the pitchers, I de-clahr you are cettingly hard to please!
(That's my best imitation of Scarlett O'Hara, just to cheer you up :D )
Sorry to hear about your loss ( the house), but nobody was hurt and that's the main thing.
As to the Malabar/Adya Katti... I see nothing wrong with it. Looks like a very nice piece and for a very good price. I would view it as Santa's present to a good boy :D
Happy New Year!

Thanks Ariel, for your delightful rendition of our First Lady, Miz Scarlett, Suh! (BTW Margaret Mitchell was married to a relative and her full name was Margaret Mitchel Marsh.)

I know that the piece is not a Moro Barong. Maybe it is a good Malabar / Adya Katti.

Maybe I should quit complaining and just get around to enjoying the New Year, (and hopefully the Insurance Money on the fire. When and If I get it.) I am very glad that no-one was injured in the fire.

Hi Bill I am no dealer :D :D :D

Joe 29th December 2006 03:39 AM

Moplah, or Ram dao, or Ayda katti, whatever it is, I think its a nice piece.

Congrats, Mr. Marsh.

(And Ariel, you call that a Southern accent? Tsk tsk tsk.......)
