Nice little pistol. Interesting rifling. The name on the lock plate could be European, but the inscription on the barrel looks like some senseless gibberish.I could be wrong though.
If that symbol on the tang is a number "2", this pistol would have been one of a pair. . |
The barrel inscription is hardly to be red but could be "JOH KROPS 1771" and the signature at the lockplate is "KELLHEIM", eventually the today city of Kehlheim in Bavaria. Unfortunately Kellheim or gunmakers working there are not mentionned in the "Neue Stöckel". As Fernando already said this piece is part of a pair of flintlock-pocketpistols, transverted to the then modern percussion system in the 1830/40s
