Garage sale Moro kris
 

A good friend's great grandfather was stationed in the Philipines in the late 1900s. He collected this. My friend inherited this with a kampilan and a dagger.

He was having a garage sale and nobody wanted to buy them, so he offered them to me at a very low price.

I had to reshape the broken pommel. The piece seems entirely original. Need to do a little rust removal and more cleaning. The scabbard is just two pieces of wood. It had come apart and I glued it back together

How can I better clean the dark spots and bring out the center panel?

Bill, I don't know how low is the very low price but that's a darn good sword and I'd love to have one as such. Congrats man. Thought you're already adept at cleaning.

That is a fascinating wood that the scabbard is made from; the grain reminds me of a Briar pipe ; scabbard by Kaywoodie !? :D :D

Seriously though; does anyone have an idea as to what kind of timber this might be; it is quite stunning .

Rick, several burrs can have that figure & colour, but it most looks like Amboyna to me. { one of the pterocarpis family}

I use two White Lightning studio 800 watt strobe lights with 42" softboxes. The camea is a Panasonic DMX FZ10. I photograph at 2304x1728 (4 megapixels) and reduce to 800x600 to post here.

Excellenct kris. When I go to yard sales all I ever see is old baby stuff and lawnmowers. :( Looks like the twised cores are coming out of the woodwork. It my be time to rethink our earlier hypothesis. This one looks like the equal of the one in the Definitive Warfare thread, and from the sounds of it, a much better price! Congrats.

OK, ok, a lot of people are asking price. When someone offers you a real deal, do you say "Gee, I should pay you more?" Or do you just say, "Ok, here is the money?" :confused:

I am of the second opinion. My friend was very happy to get his asking price because nobody else even offered close to it. The Kampilan, dagger and the Kris, total package, was $600. :eek:

I was very happy and he was very happy.

If both parties walk away from a deal, happy.....surely...its the perfect deal. :confused:

Lets face it.....to some people..'wasting' $600 on several weapons is sacrilige........But we all know, that many of us would have paid alot more,and still it would not have been a 'waste'....no wonder psychologists have so much difficulty understanding human nature... :rolleyes: :D

It was a garage sale. At a garage sale you are always suppose to start out with "will you take...for it." It's an American Custom. :)
