Yes! Another Sudanese Arm Dagger
5 Attachment(s)
This Arm Dagger was bequeathed to me by a relative who was given it some 80 years ago by a gentleman whom we believe did the Grand Tour through the Middle East before WW1, he was related to a well known Kentish brewery family.
From posts within this most interesting website I was pleased to realise that the inscriptions on the blade are on one side: Khartoum and the other side: Omdurman. The coin on the hilt I believe to be a silver Egyptian 5/10 Qirsh 1887 AH1293/13. which I understand had a long run in minting. I believe the date is on the reverse side of the coin on the hilt. Having these names on the blade makes me think that this a tourist production piece. The scabbard is in poor shape and as can be seen the arm loop is missing also a small ball at the point end of the sheath. |
