Burgonet - opinions please

Dear all,

IŽd like to have your opinion on htis helmet. I like the high calotte. The brass rivets are new replacements. I wonder why the earflaps seems to fit pretty bad (s. marking in one image). On the other hand the style and condition ogf the flaps looks good to me.

Any opinion warmly appreciated

Kind regards
Andreas

All looks good to me. You are right , the brass rivets don't help it aesthetically and since they were presumably to secure the lining one wonders wether they were originally flushed rivets. Some domed steel rivets are modern but these things are to be expected as part of its history. Given the fact that there are rather a lot of holes in odd places one wonders if at some time it had an attached fabric cover.

Thanks for your feedback. I also guess that the wholes are for holding fabric. Maybe a lining inside?
Is the missing passage from the ear flap to tha calotte normal (red ring on image 7)?

Yes image 1 looks like a terrible travesty but presumably the vendor had some evidence that it was at one time covered hence the modern fabric. The other images are Venetian sallets which illustrate better what I was thinking of. A covering with metal embellishments secured by staples , hence the pairs of holes in odd places.

Thanks for those interesting images. Now I understand what you mean :) That might be an explanation for those wholes
