Indian Shamshir
 

I know Jens and Jim have done a lot of research in regards to floral decoration on Indian hilts and I thought I would post an interesting example that has 4 different petal designs in the hilt. Perhaps this is not unusual but I thought I would post for comment.

It is a very nice shamshir you show. It is a bit unusual to find four different flowers on a hilt, but different flowers are seen now and again. The most usual is only one type of flower, then one type of flower seen from the front and the back and then the types showing several different types of flowers, and sometimes birds as well.

It is true that am interested in learning more about the different flowers used for decoration and their meaning, it is however also true that it is difficult and goes slowly. I will however not start guessing what flowers are shown on your hilt. I have an idea about two of them, but I am not quite sure, so I will wait till I know more.
