Was given a couple of items this week including this clearly very old shield , by someone who knows this is my interest . I think it is a Bakongo shield but would be keen to hear from more knowledgeable members on this matter. It is 75 x 40 cm and the 'stick' is 85 cm long . The hide is extremely thick at over 1 cm , but is made of a double layer .

Hi there.

Nice shield, this type was used by Nilotic peoples of Northern Kenya, Uganda and Southern Sudan. Such as - Karamajong, Turkana, Didinga etc.

Regards.
