Topoke shield
I've just add it to my website:
http://lulef.free.fr/html/topoke.html Not easy to find in good state, this one has just a little lack at a corner. Another pic "in situ". http://lulef.free.fr/html/bandia.html Luc |
Nice shield Luc,
the design suggests that the user is well protected , and the angle of the upper and lower sections would tend to deflect sword blows. Are most of the shields (common to the Congo), made from wood and plant materials? If yes, is this because of cultural reasons, traditional reasons or purely because the materials to make these shields are abundant in the Congo region. |
