Javanese Parang
2 Attachment(s)
Hello everybody,
I'm not sure of the origin of this parang. I saw some parang on internet with a similare handle and identified as possibly Javanese. The blade is more stubby (massive?) than the javanese parang I've seen on internet. This parang is "rustic", the sheath is made of wood and copper alloy. Length of blade : 49cm Thank you for your help (and excuse me for my english level). |
Bedog Toeroen-Goenoeng/Loeboek/Tjandoeng
Hello Athanase,
First, allow me apologise for the tardy response. Should your item indeed be Javanese ( in the most generic sense of the word ), then I would call it : Bedog/Golok Turun-gunung/Lubuk/Candung. Hope it helps. BTW, then the handle I would also call a Makara/Shrimp/Prawn. (Note: the term Makara has different meanings to different ethnic groups in the region). Best, |
After looking and looking at this, I would say that the blade and scabbard are Javanese. The blade has been "washed" many, many times.
The hilt throws me a little. |
Thank you for your answers. :)
