Indonesian Utility Knife for ID
 

Hi Guys,

I picked up this knife recently and would like to know what it may be. The blade is chisel edged and quite well forged: gentle distal taper from 4.3mm-2.0mm. I feels good in the hand and would make for a good all-round utility knife.

Hello Russel, A quick question, does the tang extend all the way through the hilt and is then peened over on this piece? If it does I would guess that it might be from somewhere around the Bicol region of Southern Luzon. Photos showing more details would be of great help.:D

don't look Indonesian, I would guess that it is from the Philippines. Visayan, Luzon? :shrug:

Hi guys, here are a few more images. As you can see, the scabbard has some damage and loss, and has been glued together sometime in the past. Although there is no sign of it, am I correct in assuming it would originally have been held together by rattan?

As the images show, the tang is partial. The unfortunate hole in the handle allows a clear view of the tang, 2/3 the length of the handle.

Hello Russel and thank you for the new photos. To me the sheath looks like it could be from Bicol, but with the short tang and the chisel edged blade the overall look of knife kind of reminds me of a Ilonggo kutsilyo from the Western Visayas region. I'm sure that someone more familiar with these than I am will be able to give you a better idea of where this was made.
