Zonneveld image
I have a question that perhaps Albert himself can offer insight in to or those more learned in Keris than I.
Page 64, figure 205, a Keris Panjang from the Williem Van Der Post's collection seen in Traditional Weapons of the Indonesian Archipelago. Are other type of this Panjang known? I ask as the hilt appears to be that of a Jono from Batak Sumarta. Is this a Panjang specific to the regions of Batak? Gavin |

I had viewed this link closely when searching through Sumatran Keris hilts but I did not find what I am looking for...the Keris hilt in Zonneveld also seems to be four or six sided with silver wrapping rather than a cup...quite a mystery...I hope this develops further. Gavin |
I agree with Gavin that the hilt and cup of Willem's keris seems to have traits of Karo Batak influence.
As a reference, check the Krisdisk of Sejr-Jensen 9,3:16. Michael |

Hi Michael,
I have taken an interest in Malay and Sumatran Keris over the last 24th months or so and continue to learn as we all do...I like the unusual ones like that presented in Zonneveld and the collection is growing nicely.
