This kukri was designed for Gurkhas attached to The Maharja of Jodphur for protection and policing his territories. During WW I the same Gurkhas fought with various regiments and carried this unique, if a bit impractical piece with them. I have never seen specific evidence or photos but these were used mostly throughout the campaigns in the mid-east. The belt loop is appalingly weak, and the closing strap/stud arrangement inconvenient and prone to tear. Still, a nice looking piece and the authentic ones always have a deeply blued blade, aluminum grip and the stylish split-back scabbard with the big steel chape. Sometime in the 1950s just the knives were reproduced to celebrate a regimental anniversary and are so marked, but there was no scabbard.
