Hello Jimmy,
The longer one looks like a pedang from Sunda. I hope Amuk Murugul can verify this and let us know the specific local name. BTW, what is the blade length? The dagger is a pedang suduk (in Javanese; pedang tusuk in Indonesian). Is that wood or metal at the base of the blade? The hilt is unusual, anyway... From the pamor I wonder wether this might be Sunda, too? Regards, Kai |
hi kai,
blade is 191/2", its wood...........................jimmy |
Hello Jim,
Could you post an image of the dagger you have in the left corner above of lightbrown wood -> second from the right? Thanks in advance, Maurice |

Hello Jimmy,
I guess Maurice was hoping for a Borneo dagger... ;) Looks more vintage than antique from the pics, doesn't it? Blade crafted from monosteel or are laminations visible? I can't place this one; am hoping someone else will chime in. Best wishes, Kai |
Hi Jim ( and Kai :) )
I totaly forgot to react... Sorry for that. Thank you for posting the image of the dagger. Kai was right: I hoped to see a south Borneo dagger... Maurice |
Gobang Soelangkar & Badi Tjondre/Tjoendrik Tjirebonan
Hullo everybody! :)
Apologies for the late response. I would accept both items as Soenda: - The longer blade I'd classify as: Pedang Abet - Gobang Paoet Njere Soelangkar, or simply, Gobang Soelangkar. - The shorter blade I'd classify as: Badi Tjondre (or Tjoendrik), or simply Badi. The dress on both are typical Tjirebon. However, in yesteryear, Tjirebon encompassed such areas as Koeningan etc. and was 'influential' in such areas as Tegal and Banjoemas. Thus, I have used the term 'Tjirebonan' (= in the Tjirebon style). Best, |
